Origins of
Zuppa Inglese are vague; the name probably come from 16th century in kitchens of the Dukes of Este in
Ferrara, who had frequent contact with England, it seems that they asked their
cooks to try to recreate the "English Trifle" they had enjoyed at the
Elizabethan court.. and this is the Italian version that still now we prepare
and eat so much in Italy.
The concept is
not far from Tiramisu.. vanilla pastry cream, soft biscuits imbibed in
strawberry coulis, chocolate pastry cream, chantilly and strawberries. I don’t
put alcohol, but in many recipes you’ll find Alchermes, I like to decorate with
strawberries and cream.. but many people don’t.. everybody has a personal
recipe.. so do what you like and that’s it!
